A Memory: When He Was Caught Red-Handed

A Memory: When He Was Caught Red-Handed

It’s childhood story. My father was a government employee.  That time he was posted in a remote area of the Odisha for an irrigation Project. We had a big quarter to stay which was surrounded by a full-size landscape grown with trees of various fruits like mango, guava, custard apple, lemon, amla, banana etc.

I always loved guavas (Now as well). Often it was irresistible for me to see the trees loaded with brightly looking guavas.  My eyes would always stick to the lovely looking guavas in the tip of the branches of the guava tree which was very tall for me as a kid then. But I must say I always wanted them. Sometime I used to ask my brother (who was few years elder to me) to get them for me without realizing the risks involved in it.

My father was dead against “climbing the tree” for both boys and girls at home. That was a diktat at home that “Nobody was allowed to climb any tree”. It was no less than a catastrophe to face “father who would go Red with anger” if any one dares to climb the tree.  But my brother would often take such misadventure for me and climb the tree to pluck guavas. We were smart enough to wait for father to get out of the house. Once he was out, we would rush to the backyard, choose a tree after decided on particular guavas, and then he would climb it, sometime to the tip of branches to pluck them. I didn’t know that climbing tree risks a fall as well. But he never mined risking a fall also. Many times he was hurt while climbing and sometime he had fallen and got wounded. After all He himself was also a Kid and not a skilled climber then. But nothing stopped him to get those “particular guavas (I used to ask for) for his kid sister. It was always an unrelenting instance in our childhood life.

One day he was “Caught red-handed”. He was plucking the guavas and dropping them  while I was standing on the ground collecting them. Father had returned from the office mid-way as he wasn’t feeling well.

Now, any one can imagine the scene.  Father was looking like a monster that time to me. My poor Brother!!He was spanked mercilessly. I had tears even if I was spared of by father (Younger kids often seldom punished…Right!! Indian Parenting). I thought I would never eat guavas again

Next day, same time, the previous day’s horrible experience was still fresh in my mind. But my brother came hiding his hands in his back.

I don’t want them…I said!

Ohh!! Really!! He then got his hands from his back. I saw guavas in his hands. My eyes glow as they were irresistible!

He had done misadventure again, climbed the tree and had plucked the guavas.

And It didn’t happen once, it happened so many times…

The Eternal Caption: “Fragile Lives, Handle with Care!!

I looked at the baggage on the Conveyor belt
Some of them leveled with a Tag
Fragile, Handle With Care
I wonder, the same way do we really care
For the Humans we found everywhere!!
We Humans!!!
No matter how tough we assert to be,
It just takes one odd turn in life
And we become terribly frail and fragile
At times...The most strongly and sturdily attired
Aren’t most often easily breakable within and inside?

But with humans,
The problem is that
We don’t carry that Visible Tag
“Fragile, Handle with Care”
May be that’s the reason
Why we hurt hastily others
And sometime get awfully hurt us too
And End up,  Torn, ragged and tattered!

Like Baggage...we are also stuffs
In the LIFE – The Conveyor belt
But with a difference…I guess
In dual roles to play...Where
We are “The baggage and the janitor”

If we can read that Invisible Tag
“Fragile, Handle with Care”
Labeled in every human
The world will be a much beautiful place
With a symphony of Love and Admire
Far and Wide…Everywhere!!

It is sad that often we treat ourselves as individuals of emotions WHILE others as creatures of logic. Wouldn’t the vice - versa make more contented equations??
Let’s see the hidden tag on each human we deal with and read the eternal caption
That says, “Fragile, Handle with Care Please"

Words and Hearts should be handled with Care
For Words when spoken and Hearts when broken are the hardest things to Repair!
So also lives… The Fragile Lives,
Hanging to the slender threads
Can crumple anytime anywhere…
Life’s  affairs should be Handled With Care...

#DreamTrails: A Babyhood Soul in Paradise Unexplored!!

I’m not exactly a wonderer. Seriously!! Not at all a travel enthusiast who can pack up their stuffs (or they’re always packed up and ready!!) and take up a journey any moment, any place on the earth.

But Wait Wait, that doesn’t mean I don’t like visiting, places. Surely I do. But the thing is

I never believed in “It’s the journey that matters and not the destination”. Come on…how come I really enjoy a journey if I’m not excited about the destination in the beginning its

elf?  To love the travel of a Journey…I must have the destination of my choice…That’s how I feel.

But the fact is Travel has always been a constant chum in my life. Right from the childhood I have been travelling to different places at different times. Why???  The reason being my father was a government employee who had frequent tours and occasional transfers.

Things have not changed now as well. We keep shifting place to place (courtesy IT professional job demand a place change as well apart from jumping in to different companies…Right) and trip to different places for different reasons. Let me confess…these types of journeys never excite me to the fullest because destinations are somewhat a “compulsion” and not a “choice”. I get few occasions (sadly) where I can decide a destination of my fondness.

So my Travel Bucket List is so crowded with options that it will be difficult to choose some of them. All places in it are close to my heart. And it’s not feasible to write about all of them here…right!! So it’s decided I will pick those that have a special connection to my soul and heart.

Now Imagine… I have a buzzer question. “Which place will you chose to explore first if given a chance to pick??

Its North East India…My answer within no moments…spontaneous!

North East India??? I know, you must be feasting your forehead with that particular gesture murmuring my answer. Stupid girl!! Didn’t she find the some wonderful places in the world!!

Yes...I must admit, sometime I also feel why my heart always go to these landscapes as first preference which is often referred as “Forbidden lands”?? My mind has several times suggested my heart to have something different giving other beautiful options also. But you know…I’m a soul who follows my heart rather than Mind.

So decided… First choice for dream destinations to explore will be “North East India”

I don’t exactly know when these landscapes entered into my list and Top the same as my Dream Destinations. Perhaps in the school days I think. Because as a school kid I remember I used to find it very difficult to locate the North East states in India’s Political Map as a part of Map Study in Social study chapters. No wonder why I always used to lose some marks on questions anything related to these states…be it Map study or any bit or long question. Most of the time I used to leave them “unanswered”.

They used to appear as a “Bunch of Grapes” to me. I remember I used to feel “Once I grow up...I will go to these places and find out the answers”. That might have been the point when I felt to visit these lands.

At present I think many are still unaware of the fact about this part of our India. I’m sure some even can’t answer “how many states are there in North-East India” (hey…few years back even I was one of them) …. Let alone the facts about them.

Often termed as “Seven Virgin sisters” and “Paradise Unexplored”…The North East India comprises seven contiguous Sister States such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura including the Himalayan State “Sikkim- called as “The only Brother of these seven sisters”. They are often considered as “Forbidden land” because of their narrow connectivity to the main stream India “both physically and culturally”.

For me, the Forbidden fruit has always been irresistibly fascinating. I have a bit Nature Loving kida (worm) in me as well.

The first thing that fascinates me about these places is their biodiversities in terms flora and fauna. Then the dense forest, powerful torrent rivers and rains and thunderstorms sweeping across the hills, valleys and plains during the annual monsoons….

OMG!! What could be more than enough!!

These isolated lands are also the meeting point of various cultures, ethnic groups, food, faiths and festivals.  A place renowned for its mysterious magnificence and mystifying miscellany, In North East India One will find everything to satiate the appetite of any kind of escapades and natural desire to roam in the land of Paradise unexplored...Trekking, Rambling or trailing or simply walking and adoring the splendor!

Whether it is CHERRAPUNJI in Meghalaya-I know, I know…with the mention of this name you all are taken back into your school days. Hmm… nostalgic!! Remember those days how hard it was to memorize the Place of heaviest Rain Fall, Wettest Place etc- Cherrapunji…right!

For me its bit little more nostalgic! I love Rain. As a kid when I learnt that Cherapunji receives maximum rainfall….OMG!! My little innocent mind started dreaming up wandering in this place!!And believe me I was no less than The ALICE in the wonderland!! It’s been a childhood dream place for me. High above the vaporous valleys and ruffling Rivers, majestic water falls, the double Decker Root bridges and ensconced in curling clouds and hovering on an escarpment, Cherrapunji – The Place of my babyhood Dream is situated in the lap of the “Abode of clouds – Meghalaya”. Perhaps it’s the only place that has one season throughout year. Only Rain, Rain and Rain!!

The Scotland of the East SHILLONG, UNAOKOTI Rock Temples in Tripura, Kachauri Ruins” – the ancient ruins, Tea Gardens in Assam,  Rumtek - the famous monastery (Also the largest monastery in Sikkim situated in Gangtok), the Rhinos of The Kaziranga National Park The Orchids of the “land of the dawn-lit mountains” Arunachal Pradesh …the list would go longer and longer.

North East India offers a hell lot of things to explore. I wish I would have a chance to land on that picturesque landscape on earth.  It will be like in paradise on earth.

Ohh!! That’s enough...Right!! Actually North East States of India are so bountiful in offering of Natural beauty that one life time perhaps not enough to explore it!!I've just explored the Natural beauties. Actually there are many more in Food,Festival and People!! That's why they say...One should Visit North India once in life time!!

What You Don’t Know is the Pain I have gone through…

Rock 1 to Rock 2: It’s really going out of my control. No more can I handle it. (Its face was sad and gloomy)

Rock 2 (smilingly): Why? What happened?

Rock 1:  You’re a rock and so I am. We loll beside each other. Why then people come to you, worship you, garland you and offer so many things to you and not me? They stand in long queues to have a “small sight” of you while all the way ignoring me even if I’m just beside you. It’s unfair…isn’t it?

Rock 2 smiled and said, you know I’m a Rock just like you but What You Don’t know is the pain I have gone through those days, when the stone sculptor was carving the “Shape of the deity” out of me. The unbearable ache it made me suffer through while the sculptor used hammers and chisels on me for carving out the extra stone, to give me a form.

For The people you see around me, you are just a Rock to them while I have become their God.

I knew I was a Rock but what I didn’t know was “Divinity” was hidden in me.

You know you’re a stone but What You don’t know is “something divine” in you as well…

Rock 1 smiled with a glow in its face!!!

Pain is an Alchemy that converts Rocks into Gods,

In Human Life also,
It renovates us from within, brings out the finer aspects of life by enlightening the hidden wisdom in us…

Life isn’t measured what you know, it is measured by what you’re willing to explore “What You Don’t Know”…..precisely of the Unknown!

Truth sometime stranger than Fiction...

Dhhadhhak….
I got an abrupt jerk with an earth shattering sound and I would have almost banged the door if I had not controlled myself.
OMG!! I screamed out….What was that??
Mam…sorry. It was just a small accident. I heard my My Driver’s frenzied voice.
Thank God…He was alright. The first thing that came into my mind
He had already stopped the car.
Who did it have hit…then came the second thought.
Mam you sit inside…let me see the things.
He got out. I was alright by then. I saw some people outside the car roaming and piping into something. I couldn’t see anything. I wanted to know what had exactly happened though …
After few moments…He came and knocked my window. I opened the glass.
Mam…It has given a dent to an ACTIVA ridden by a woman. She is unconscious and no serious damage to the vehicle. But I’m not sure of the lady.
I couldn’t prevent myself from coming out of the car. Some people were already shouting at Him. I heard Someone from the crowd saying…yeh badi gadi walon ko na ..jyada chadhi rahti hai…Pakdo inko…chhodna maat…!
As I stepped out, a moment of silence was there. He was still insisting that I should remain inside the vehicle. But I couldn’t.
I saw a crowd of 8 to 10 people had surrounded something.
May be it was the lady...I thought
I made way through the crowd. Some of them had started giving their verdicts…if the lady was alive or not….I saw the inactive body of a lady of around my age dressed in blue jeans and a hip length kurti and a white scarf with black floral prints in it around her head, was lying there with her face on the ground.
However there was no pool of blood or any sign of external injury…it seemed
May be a severe internal injury…I thought frantically
I went close to her and tried to turn her body.
Madam…what are you doing. It’s an accident and it’s a police case. Let’s wait for the police. You shouldn’t touch the body…someone said from the crowd
So what…if it’s an accident….Let me check her condition first. She might need immediate medical help….why should I wait for the Police for that. My vehicle is here along with my driver. I’m sure some of you might have started recording the things in your mobile phones, what else police would need more? ...I said in one breathe (honestly don’t know how…).
I had expected people might have taken initiative to examine the lady. But what I saw was some of them had switch on the video cameras of their smart phones and some were busy in passing judgments while some were busy in throwing sarcastic comments on how “indifferent and damn care” are the people with big/luxurious car. That moment even I saw so many vehicles were speeding away hardly caring what really happened
It’s really something that always goes beyond my comprehension. In case of a road mishap, why most of us always try to play a spectator or someone who ignore and speed away or we become judgmental rather helping the victim. Strange!
What’s more ridiculous the next day,  if someone who have recorded and upload it in social media handles, chances is there, it may go viral. There might be a huge debate on morality of people and society both on social media and electronic media. The virtual world soon becomes an ocean of “wisdom” pouring out from unknown people on “what should we do as human”. And guess what… same set of people may be writing or making comments on what humanity is all about.  But in reality people hardly care about the person lying on the road. Doesn’t “The live or lifeless” body deserve some part of our humanity.  Or May be the truth (some time) Stranger than fiction. Isn’t it?
