I am a woman, but I never felt "Despite Being a Woman" as a Sexist or derogatory Remark or a worst compliment Ever!!

"I am happy that Bangladesh Prime Minister, despite being a woman, has declared zero tolerance for terrorism," were the exact words out of which the phrase "despite being a woman"

Having said the above words PM Narendra Modi wouldn’t have ever thought that he would
Raise the eyebrows worldwide and possibly might get literally trolled and chided in social media where he actually has a big support...Let’s forget about the other media platforms?

During his recent Bangladesh visit PM Narendra Modi with his great oratory skills, while making out a profound speech used the phrase "Despite Being a Woman" to eulogize and extol his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina on her resolve to counter terrorism.

Honestly I was quite stunned when the phrase "Despite being a woman" acquired a centre stage in Media that include all (print, electronic and social) few days back.

I'm not here to defend PM Narendra Modi because I think as an aspiring world leader he should better be careful on his choice of words especially while on an International podium. I mean the above sentence could have been much better had he said: "I am inspired with the audacity of Bangladesh PM on her zero tolerance to Terrorism"….for Example.

I mean he should have said something without mentioning the gender of his Female counter part. I think the speech writer of our prime minister should take a note of this for future vocalizations.

However what surprised me "Despite being a woman" is now termed as a stinking phrase that dispenses the underlining sexist, misogynist and male chauvinistic narrow-mindedness in the subconscious minds of our male counter parts or society.

Really!!

If it is so, then why I never learnt to take offence from it? Believe me, I can't count how many times I have been referred with the above phrase so far in life…and you know what… every time I thought it was a bit of appreciation for me.

Let me mention few personal instances where I have been mentioned with the above remark. During my school days I used to be a very active child. Along with studies, I used to perform very well in all other activities of the school. In our classroom or in assembly, so many times my teachers and my Principal had said: "Despite being a girl, she is outperforming other students in the class as well as in the school."
OMG! Were they actually insulting me for my gender? I never thought like that because I felt it was their appreciations for me….was I wrong!!!

During college days also every time I was mentioned with the above idiom "despite being a woman (girl)" with my every achievement, be it college quiz competition, debate, story writing etc. And every time I was quite motivated with the admiration. Should I have taken it as insulting?

Once my HOD (Head of the Department) even said it in little exaggerated way before the external examiner who was supposed to take our practical exams. When the examiner was supposed to ask me viva questions, my HOD said, "Despite being a girl (woman) she can beat anyone in Badminton" while referring my recently won Badminton Championship in college, to him. And guess what…I topped the practical marks while no serious question was asked to me.

Probably the examiner was more impressed with my badminton achievements like that of my HOD. And you know what, I actually felt flattered with what my HOD said. But never thought, "Was he dispensing something reeking sexism in his words?"

Let’s come to some general illustrations. Now, what about those myriad instances where we have been taught that "despite being a woman" Rani Laxmi Bai had given nightmares to British administrations, Madam Curie got Nobel Prize in Physics etc? Were they teaching us through utter misogynist mentions?
And recently Malala Yousufzai, who fought against her assaulter who was opposing girl's education, was mentioned with the above phrase numerous times! Were they all sexist quotes?

What about Shakti Mohan and Rajasmita Kar for whom the same phrase was used when they emerged as winners in the TV reality dance show, Dance India Dance. Were those mentions meant that women cannot dance??

Few months there was news of Meerut Woman Pinky who fought with goons in a UP street alone to save her husband. Wasn’t it something like “despite being a woman she outdistance the goons” kind matter in it? Was it a sexist mention??

On a different note, I have heard Anup Soni on several occasions, making the above remark while reporting a Crime committed by a woman in Crime Petrol, Sony Tv. For example “Ek Mahila Hone ke Babjud itna vayanak hatya kaise kar shakti hai? (Despite being a woman how could she commit such a violent crime??)

Now in the above sentence doesn’t it mean that women in general are less likely to commit vicious crimes? So was it appreciations or sexist mentions???

Recently the results for various board examinations were out. Many news papers, online platforms came out with a head line "Girls out shine boys". Doesn't it sound something like "despite being girls, they outshone boys"?

OMG! Were they actually denigrating girls' performances while offensive of their gender with classic chauvinism? Then there should have been a national outcry on it…Right! But I don’t think anything happened like that.

Even for Congress President Sonia Gandhi the above remark was so many times used to glorify her for heading the oldest political party of India. Let’s not discuss How Late PM Indira Gandhi was mentioned with above remark…in fact some time as the only “Man” in her cabinet or Dr. Kiran Bedi despite being a woman, she became an IPS officer.

After PM Modi delivered that speech in Dhaka, the Washington Post came out with a head line "India's Modi Just Delivered World's Worst Complement".

(I really wonder why despite being the leading nation of the world, why USA never had a woman president so far!)

Worst Complement? I mean if not insult or sexism…then it should be worst complement? Does it mean that during all these years whenever the above phrase was used to compliment women, it was actually a worst complement for them? Honestly…it makes me feel a bit of cynicism at all time high.

“Despite being a woman” was a group of words perhaps were coined to appreciate those women who despite being in a men’s world had outclass them (men). It was always mentioned in a context where women have proved their potency where they were less expected.
.
Yes…I agree while being an appreciating phrase for the women's achievements, it also reflects how time and again womenfolk had been made to suffer by the society for being a woman. They were traditionally discriminated for their legitimate rights. It just goes like "when people say you look younger than your age…they also mention your right age as well."

"Despite being a women" always reflected the truth of stinking side of the society with fetid sexism and discrimination against the fairer sex but it was never been a derogatory, sexist or worst complement kind remark to any woman so far…I feel.

At Last, had it not been Narendra Modi, the scenario would have been different…I guess.

For Me Its Not Just #LiveLodgycal…I’ts #LiveLifeFamiLodgycal !!!

I must confess…I’m not at all a travel freak. I can go up to any extent to look for the worst possible excuses to avoid a journey if it can be. You may term me as a lazy girl…But instead of travelling I love to read or watch Television or movies.

But life is not what we want in it. It’s basically all about how we manage things which we don’t want. Guess what…I end up taking up long distance journeys for something or other at the end of day.

One can ask my white swift …. Roads of how many states are left to roll its wheel? It will answer you that it has already visited the road infrastructure of nearly half of the states in India.

Well…most of my journeys are often on road. There are two reasons for this. One…mostly they are suddenly planned. And second…I can’t enjoy or be comfortable without carrying my world along with me throughout the journey.

My last long distance journey was in last March, From Mumbai (Where I stay) to Odisha (My hometown).  It was quite a pleasurable trip. However it had something that gave us a pinching feeling as well. May be for the first time we felt we need a big vehicle like that of XUVs

Let me confess again…I’m not a Car freak also. With our nuclear family status (me, my hubby and my cool dude Hero) we were quite comfortable in our white swift.

But the last trip really made us realize that a big vehicle is a need especially when nears and dears are around. Believe me before that…I never gave any attention to any type of car. Whether it is newly lunched or a remodeled design whatever…it never made any sense to me.

But after the March trips to Odisha….suddenly my attention were driven towards the launch of new vehicles or to innovas or XUVs.

Last month one fine day…my Brother texted me on WhatsApp that they had booked a Renault Lodgy with a picture of it….!!That’s how I noticed Renault Lodgy for the first time.

Royal Orchid with a sleek design!!!

OMg!! I fell in love with it in my first look!!

My world revolves around a sense of well-defined choices, silky preferences, royal attitude and making others bit envious of me kind of manner. I have an attitude of wrapping my limitations and showing out the best thing about me. And the Renault Lodgy just fits perfectly with that…..

After that I almost drifted into a dream sequence with every excited feedback on the performance, style and strength of the Renault Lodgy from my brother’s family. They not only fortify my desire to have a big Car but also they made me realize that it is the only Car which is most suitable to quench my desire to have my family and carry my world in it…whenever and wherever I travel.

I wish I Have this New Creature for my every road journey….Yes that’s what I started thinking.

With this thought,  the first thing that came into my mind was the faces of my Mother and Mother-In-Law and Father-In-Law piping out with happiness as they visit Dwarka seating comfortably inside the car ….as a long awaited wish gets fulfilled.

May be it needs a big heart to accommodate all in your world but physically it needs strength to accommodate your world in to a vehicle….right!!!  And the magnanimous Renault Lodgy comes with 7 and 8 full-size seats spread into three rows. Hmm…it would never let my father-in-law complain about his back pain for uncomfortable sitting arrangements.

Suddenly…the face of my maid with her classic smile appeared in the screen of my psyche. How about making her feel a life time experience with a journey together!! After all…all these years she has been a vital part of my world!!

And while having them all …still I can really stay calm as experts have very minutely taken care of building the safety features of the Lodgy.      Awesome!!

The next thing came into my mind…I would never have to compromise to cut into size the world of my sport freak cool dude. Now he can pack all his world, that includes….his Skateboard, Basket Ball, Cricket kit, Badminton Rackets and as many Geronimo Stilton books as he want along with his mini baggage that includes His PSP, hot wheel cars, bay blades and Slam Attack cards with their Albums.
After all The Renault Lodgy come with an ample storage space…. Hmmm!1 Isn't it just fantastic!!!

Next...the world of my Hubby that includes his Laptop, Nikon Camera and his UE Ultimate ear Bars.
Moreover He drives himself every time we go out. With Renault Lodgy now I can have him holding a continuous smile on his face while driving long distances as Renault Lodgy has excellent performance features....that promises an effortless and tireless driving and enjoying the journey more and more.

They say Lodgy is a vehicle that takes out LONG out of a long glorious journey. One can really experience the same with AdaptiveSuspensionWith Anti-Roll Bar and ErgoDrive features. Moreover its fuel efficiency around 20kmpl makes it one of its kinds and the control over fuel consumption with the Eco mode make for an easier drive while fitting perfectly into our already strained budget!!

My world revolves around my iPad. Laptop, the CD albums that includes Justine Bieber music CDs, Old Odia movie songs, latest Chartbuster releases, selected Hindi Movie songs and some Bhajan CDs. With a superb and styled Multimedia Facility with equally matching functionality is just reaching out to the imagination!!

Along with all the above I can take boxes of Home Made snacks, the Tupperware water dispenser, First Aid Box, the recron pillows and with some ready made drinks and snacks.

Every destination has its personalized requirements. Similarly every individual has his/her own choices of accessories when it comes with a Car.  Renault Lodgy has its admirable personalization choices for car accessories that really make it a best Family Car. When I go out…my style world also needs go out….

The best thing is …with Renault Lodgy “My Family My world” can go all together with Attitude, Comfort and Pleasurable journey experiences…!!!

Definitely it’s time to #LiveLodgycal….but for me with Renault Lodgy... it’s something more…its #LiveLifeFamiLodgycal…

Hey Tina!! Wake Up…it’s a dream and not a reality….
But you must have a dream at first place to expect it to become Reality…Right!

I’m participating in the #LiveLodgycal contest with Renault in association withBlogAdda to get a chance to be a part of the #LiveLodgycal Drive in Goa.

Exam Results: Don’t let those Random Numbers on a piece of paper define your life!!

So once again it’s the Result time….it’s that insane part of the year when students who appeared in the board exams for X and XII and their parents and teachers become anxiously excited.

For some lucky chaps it's an extremely exhilarated time for celebration as they've scored better grades while for some broods it's a period of melancholy as their score cards are light weighted with inferior marks that is perceived as an  indicative of a distressing carrier path way.

Again after results the 'college hunt' 'stream selection' (Science, Arts or Commerce), selecting subjects, cut-off marks are some of the routine things that adds some more fret to the already apprehensive minds.

Since last few weeks as the results of different boards got out, I’m coming across with many articles/opinions or advice/suggestions from experts, academicians, TV shows and discussion, congratulating winners and consolation for losers. On Sunday…even PM Narendra Modi came out his own message through his Man Ki Baat.

Undoubtedly it's a very transitional period of life which every student experiences at one point. Those random numbers in that piece of paper called as report card almost appears to be the only vehicle on hand that decides the journey of life…more clearly a better life.

Those who scored high, they are privileged to have their choices  of choosing branded colleges, streams also subjects of their liking. Those who scored low, it seems the life of compromise starts for them.
It appears as if those random numbers on report cards more often acts like a travel documents defining the journey.

For high scorers (more than 90%) …it’s a plane ticket
For mediocre scores (from 60 to 89%)…its train ticket (again here the class depends on the marks as AC first class, AC second class, sleeper class or general class etc..)
For low scorers (less than 60%)…it may be a two wheeler (again marks decide if it is a bicycle or a scooty or a Bike)
And those who failed to pass…Nothing remains for them other than their own feet.

We know our society is obsessed with high scores.  Even our education system is also infatuated with good grades or marks. Branded colleges, institutions or best branches or streams always give preference to highly weighted report cards. That’s why students who didn’t get good grades or marks often have to compromise in terms of their choices of college, institution, streams or subjects of their liking which affects disturbingly their minds. It seems as if it's the start of learning about compromising choices!

But the reality is very different. Because marks or grades in various exams just provide an allusion of one's capabilities or intelligence and of course an affirmation of the fact that hard work pays.  But they definitely don't define one's actual potential. Had it been so I think Mrs. Smriti  Irany would have never been our HRD minister. One may found many such people who might have done excellent in life irrespective of their poor academic performances.

No doubt Academic performance is an indicator of potential success in life as it paves your way reasonably in a simpler manner to good jobs, good income thereby making life happier and hassle free. It acts like a lubricant in a mechanical system performing motion. Though motion can still be performed without it, but having it just makes job much easier.

But the real potential of a person is accessed while one venture out in the biggest institution called Life. Life is the real institution and every happening event is its exams.  There is always something to be learning in life.

For those who scored well, it’s time to discover their life path correctly, as more often they fall into a trap of rat race without their knowledge. More often they seem to follow the crowds at the cost of their own interests which sometime become perilous in later part of the life. So its very important to chose the right path and enter into the race with own pace.

And for those who scored reasonably low or even failed  the exams, it’s a time to rediscover yourself and finding out own faults through introspection. The world is a changed place now a days. There are plenty of options available that don't stress upon good marks or grades.

In reality academic performance is only one of many indicators of potential success in life because potential success is a amalgamation of many ingredients.

It is the ability to work hard,
Succeeding at the workplace through excellent communication and inter personal skills.
 Having a strong internal motivation
Ability to take risk
And a constantly intuitive mind… to be listed few.

Life is the best institution and it gives equal opportunity to everybody, no matter what score your report card possesses. Those random numbers have no role at all while one becomes a student of life. This is the reality. So let those random numbers never define you or your life!!!!

Marks and Grades never define your real potential....they are just random numbers!!
Be Happy And Be Successful in Life :) :)
