I’m one of those many, who believe not only in dreams but also in
wildest Dreams. Let me tell something on how my dreams (okay...Wildest dreams) come
true! I hail from Odisha. I used to stay with my brother who was staying some kilometers
away from Cuttack. I used to study in Cuttack. For daily commute I used to walk
around 2KM to catch the Bus to my Institute (no other option was available…apart
from occasionally my brother would manage to drop me there). While walking (it
may sound stupid!!!) I used to imagine walking in the streets of Mumbai and
Delhi (of course to distract myself from the pain of walking that distance as
well as the tough weather conditions such as heavy rains or scorching heat of
sun). Honestly I used to dream to roam in particularly Delhi and Mumbai.
Guess what!!
Just few years after that I got married and came to Mumbai. After some
years I shifted to Delhi and again to Mumbai. So in that way I walked in the
streets of both the Cities (isn’t it wildest dream come true!!!). But Delhi is
always bit close to my Heart though I love Mumbai as well (Sorry Mumbai…I need
to be honest)
I think if there will be a survey on “Which City in India is the
most #madeofgreat City in India?”…definitely Delhi will top the list. Even, I’m
sure it will top the list as “most people’s favorite City in India” as well.
During my school days we used to read lots of things about Delhi
in subjects like History, Civics...etc. With growing years I don’t remember
anything that doesn’t have a mention of Delhi. Starting from healthcare
facilities to Education, Co-curricular activities, science, politics, events, Monuments,
arts, Literature …what’s not? I don’t know “how and when” I fall in love with
the City Delhi with every mention of it. It became my Most Favorite City from some unknown moments. I used to imagine
myself standing beside the “Lotus Temple” (Something that amazed me most those
days) and Qutubminar (The monument that used to drive me towards Delhi as I used
to see its picture in my history book…from those days of Fantasies)
Well…Delhi is purely a City #madeofgreat. In fact I can say a born #madeofgreat city. It is a living legend that has the vibrant testimonies of art, culture, architecture and history from ancient times to till date.
Drive:
What’s Drives me To This City: The first thing that drives me is
its Affluent History and cultural heritage:
Delhi is a city which I feel is a magic blend of history as well
as modern times. It’s City of Dreams of every ruler since ancient times. It has
been the centre of a succession of powerful realms and grand monarchies, making
it as one of the longest serving Capitals and one of the oldest inhabited
cities in the world. Whether it’s Indraprashtha- City
of the God Indra Capital of Pandavas
in Mahabharat days or the seven century reign of Mughal Empires and
then the ruling of British….it holds vivid testimonies for every period, Imprinted with their identity. The various monuments and architecture really make me mad
about it. Mystery, Magic and Mayhem...are the three words that Define Delhi
In modern times, no need to say that it drives everybody for
everything. Be it politics, Education, Science, Healthcare, art, literature; job…
as Delhi is the Centre of Excellence for everything!
Personally I always feel Delhi is a City as if Made of Clay…because
it’s a city built, ruined and reconstructed several times, as foreigners who
successfully invaded the Indian Subcontinent would ransack the
existing capital city in Delhi, and those who came to surmount and stay would
be so overwhelmed by the city's strategic location as to make it their capital they
would re-establish it in their own way. And the best thing is Delhi always
would adopt the change and look better with every restructure.
At present the vast spread
over an area of 1,484 km² and a
population 9.879 million (2001), it is called as a “Mini India” as it
inhabitants immigrants from all over India. Modern Delhi is a chaotic
tapestry of medieval fortifications, Mughal mausoleums, dusty bazaars,
colonial-era town planning, and mega malls.
It borders the Indian
states of Haryana on the north, west and south and Uttar Pradesh (UP) to the
east. Two prominent features of the geography of Delhi are the Yamuna flood
plains and the Delhi ridge. The design of the City is such that even if
it is densely crowded with people and vehicles, it appears to be open and
immense.
